He defended the ACC's actions leading up to the College Football Playoff Committee selections, stating that Notre Dame's worthiness for inclusion was never in question.
"We are thrilled for the University of Miami while also understanding the disappointment of Notre Dame's players and coaches," Phillips added.
Miami will now face Texas A&M in the first round of the playoffs, with the game scheduled for December 20th. Meanwhile, Notre Dame's season has come to an end, declining an invitation to play in the Pop-Tarts Bowl against BYU.
But here's the part most people miss: Bevacqua's frustration isn't solely about Notre Dame's playoff snub. He believes the ACC's actions in promoting Miami while seemingly knocking down Notre Dame were a strategic mistake. In an appearance on The Dan Patrick Show, Bevacqua expressed his respect for Miami and its athletic director, Dan Radakovich, but emphasized the damage done to the relationship between the conference and Notre Dame.
"They have certainly done permanent damage to the relationship," Bevacqua said. "We were mystified by the conference's actions, attacking their biggest football partner and a member of their conference in other sports."
