A Dramatic Start to Day 2: Cadillac's Red Flag Incident
The second day of Formula 1's pre-season tests in Bahrain kicked off with a bang, quite literally! A red flag incident, triggered by a Cadillac, set the tone for an intriguing day ahead.
Sergio Perez, driving the Cadillac, experienced an unexpected halt on the back straight after Turn 10 during his outlap. This incident caused a three-minute red flag delay, but the stricken car's recovery took longer, presumably due to the use of service roads.
Despite this early setback, Cadillac had already completed over 100 laps on the first day, and Perez was back on track shortly after the morning stoppage.
The first hour of the day saw teams mostly keeping a low profile, focusing on short runs and out-and-in laps. However, McLaren and Lando Norris, who set the pace on day one, managed to pull ahead again with some impressive push lap runs on hard tyres, clocking a time of 1m35.795s, nearly two seconds ahead of their nearest competitor.
Just as the hour mark passed, Charles Leclerc in the Ferrari stole the spotlight with the quickest time of the test so far, eclipsing Norris with a stunning 1m34.442s. Pierre Gasly, driving the Alpine, was the busiest driver in the first hour, completing an impressive 20 laps.
Interestingly, none of the teams that faced major issues on day one, namely Mercedes, Red Bull Racing, and Aston Martin, ran extensively during the first hour. But they did make brief appearances on the track, suggesting they were taking a cautious approach after their previous troubles.
And here's where it gets controversial... With the first hour setting the stage for an exciting day, the question arises: Will the teams' strategies pay off, or will we see more unexpected twists and turns?
