Imagine Shane Martin's surprise when, returning from a well-deserved holiday, he received a call about his shopfront's front door being in ruins. The culprit? A four-legged fury with a penchant for headbutting.
Mr. Martin, a construction business owner, reviewed his CCTV footage and discovered a 20-minute long goat-vs-glass battle. The goat, presumably mistaking its reflection for a rival, charged at the door with determination, eventually breaking through.
"It's like he saw his reflection and thought, 'Who's that guy? I don't like him!'" Mr. Martin humorously remarked.
But here's where it gets controversial: Kristy DiGiacomo, a senior lecturer at the University of Melbourne, suggests the goat's behavior was more than just a playful mistake.
"Goats headbutt for various reasons, from dominance to mating competition, defense, or even just for fun," Dr. DiGiacomo explained. She added that goats' personalities can shift based on resource availability, with some becoming more aggressive when feed is scarce.
In this case, the goat likely saw its reflection as a competitor for resources and was headbutting to assert dominance and protect its territory.
The damage bill is estimated at a whopping $4,000, covering the cost of replacing the glass front door and two panels. Thankfully, the goat didn't make it inside, or else the mess could have been even worse!
