Marco Schwarz Wins Giant Slalom at Alta Badia | FIS Alpine Ski World Cup 2025/26 (2026)

Marco Schwarz's triumphant return to the top of the podium at the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit! After a challenging couple of years, Austrian skier Marco Schwarz has clinched his first World Cup victory in giant slalom in two years at Alta Badia, Italy, on December 21st. His combined time of 2:35.02 over the two runs on the Gran Risa piste was enough to secure the win.

Lucas Pinheiro Braathen, representing Brazil, put up a strong fight, finishing a mere 0.18 seconds behind Schwarz. His compatriot, Stefan Brennsteiner, the Olympic team champion, took third place, trailing by 0.22 seconds.

Marco Odermatt, fresh off his 50th World Cup victory in the shortened downhill event, secured sixth place, with Atle Lie McGrath of Norway and Fabian Gratz of Germany ahead of him.

Henrik Kristoffersen, the reigning slalom World Cup champion, finished in 11th place, over a second behind Schwarz. However, he has a chance to narrow the overall gap in the upcoming slalom event on Monday.

Schwarz's victory also propelled him five points ahead of Odermatt in the giant slalom standings.

But here's where it gets interesting: In the overall World Cup rankings, Schwarz currently holds the second position, with Odermatt leading by 454 points.

Schwarz's last World Cup win before this triumph was at the Madonna di Campiglio slalom nearly two years ago. This was followed by a severe knee injury that sidelined him.

This begs the question: Can Schwarz maintain this momentum and challenge Odermatt for the overall title? What are your thoughts on Schwarz's comeback and his chances in the upcoming events? Share your opinions in the comments below!
