Tired of the Hoka hype? It seems like every trail runner is sporting those cushioned behemoths, and for good reason! Hoka has undeniably made its mark, even lending its name to the prestigious UTMB Mont-Blanc race. But what if there was another way? A refreshing return to the roots of minimalist design? That's where Norda's 005 racer enters the scene, proving that sometimes, less is truly more.
Published just 12 minutes ago, this shoe is already making waves. (And if you're curious, buying through links might earn a commission – just a heads-up!).
While the big players are busy chasing Hoka's shadow, Norda, a Canadian newcomer, is blazing its own trail. Their secret weapon? A highly technical racer that proves different can also mean incredibly capable. But here's where it gets interesting...
The 005's midsole is crafted entirely from Arnitel, a thermoplastic polyester elastomer (TPEE). And get this: at its thickest point, it measures a mere 28.5mm. That's a stark contrast to today's trail runners, which often borrow those massive stack heights and carbon-fiber plates from road running shoes.
"The big brands were bringing that technology from the road to the trail but it’s not as stable on uneven ground and can send a wicked spring in the wrong direction,” says Norda founder Nick Martire.
Beyond the midsole, the 005 boasts some impressive tech. The upper utilizes Bio-Dyneema, woven for breathability and quick water drainage. And the outsole? It features Vibram's new Megagrip Elite rubber, which the manufacturer claims is their lightest and grippiest yet.
Key Specs of the Norda 005:
- Heel-to-Toe Drop: 7mm
- Midsole Material: Arnitel (TPEE)
- Stack Height: 28.5mm
This shoe is a GP100 Winner!
But here's a thought-provoking question: Could this minimalist approach truly challenge the dominance of maximalist cushioning? What do you think about the trend toward thicker-soled shoes? Share your thoughts in the comments!
