Imagine a decade of anticipation, innovation, and meticulous planning culminating in a single, breathtaking moment—a new ship class touching water for the first time. This is the story of Regent Seven Seas Cruises and their groundbreaking Seven Seas Prestige, a vessel that promises to redefine luxury at sea. But here's where it gets even more exciting: this isn't just any ship launch; it’s the first in ten years for the brand, and it’s already making waves in the industry.
On November 27, 2025, the Seven Seas Prestige floated out of its building dock at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Marghera, Italy, marking a monumental milestone for Regent. Jason Montague, Chief Luxury Officer for Regent Seven Seas Cruises, captured the essence of this achievement: “The Seven Seas Prestige touching water for the first time is an extraordinary moment, representing years of dedication and collaboration with our partners at Fincantieri.” He added, “The overwhelming response from travelers confirms that something truly exceptional is on the horizon. In fact, the ship’s launch day became our biggest single booking day for a new ship in our history.”
The float-out ceremony was a spectacle of tradition and celebration. Brunetta Casara, from Fincantieri, served as Madrina, and the event featured the iconic shattering of a champagne bottle against the hull, a ceremonial ribbon-cutting, and a prayer by the shipyard chaplain. As the drydock flooded, it symbolized the transition from vision to reality.
Marco Spiga, Senior Director and Project Manager at Regent, expressed profound gratitude to Fincantieri for their partnership, highlighting the seamless collaboration that brought this project to life. With this phase complete, the Seven Seas Prestige will now move to the outfitting pier, where it will be transformed with “lavish suites, elegant lounges, and exquisite restaurants”—a testament to Regent’s commitment to unparalleled luxury.
Set to debut in December 2026, the Seven Seas Prestige is the first of three ships in the Prestige-class series. This 76,550-ton marvel will accommodate 822 guests and 630 crew members, boasting one of the highest crew-to-guest ratios in the cruise industry. But here’s the part most people miss: this isn’t just about numbers; it’s about the experience. The ship’s inaugural season will feature 13 cruises to Europe and the Caribbean, including two trans-Atlantic crossings, with itineraries ranging from 10 to 15 nights. Destinations like Harvest Caye in Belize, the Panama Canal, Lisbon, and Bordeaux promise a blend of adventure and sophistication.
And this is where it gets controversial: Is the Seven Seas Prestige setting a new standard for luxury cruising, or is it simply raising the stakes in an already competitive market? With two additional Prestige-class ships on order for 2030 and 2033, Regent is clearly betting on the former. But what do you think? Will this new class redefine luxury at sea, or is it just another player in an overcrowded field?
As the Seven Seas Prestige prepares to set sail, one thing is certain: it’s not just a ship—it’s a statement. A statement that Regent Seven Seas Cruises is here to lead, not follow. What’s your take? Share your thoughts in the comments below—we’d love to hear your perspective!
