Swaim Hutson Takes the Helm at Rag & Bone, Succeeding Robert Geller as Men's Designer
The Robert Geller era is over at Rag & Bone. After two years at the helm of menswear design, Geller has quietly exited the company. His successor, Swaim Hutson, will debut his first collection at Pitti Uomo in Florence in January. Hutson, a co-founder of Obedient Sons and a former designer for 3.1 Phillip Lim and Club Monaco, brings a unique vision to the iconic New York brand.
Hutson's appointment is a strategic move, as he joins a powerhouse company with a rich history in denim and American sportswear. In an interview, he expressed his enthusiasm for the brand's 'authenticity and innovation', aiming to create menswear that is both timeless and contemporary, embodying the spirit of New York while resonating globally.
His focus on tailoring and suit separates, a shift from the traditional nested suits, reflects a modern approach to menswear. Hutson plans to leverage his expertise in fit and fabrics, offering classics with a modern twist, and hinted at an exciting denim program launching in 2026, a nod to the brand's raw denim roots.
Geller, who joined Rag & Bone in 2023, focused on updating the fit and silhouette of the collection and merging ready-to-wear and Pursuit sportswear. Despite his departure, Geller remains a close friend of the brand, and his contributions are acknowledged with gratitude.
Rag & Bone, founded in 2002 by Marcus Wainwright and David Neville, has undergone several changes. Wainwright stepped down as chief brand officer in 2023, and the company was sold to Guess Inc. and WHP Global in February 2024. This transition marks a new chapter for the brand, with Hutson's appointment symbolizing a fresh direction in menswear design.
