Tottenham Hotspur finds itself on the brink of making another significant move in the Premier League, following their interest in Andy Robertson.
Despite their aspirations for Champions League football, this season has been quite disappointing for Tottenham, as they are currently positioned in the lower half of the league table. The pressure is mounting on manager Thomas Frank, who seems to be fighting for his job amidst a series of setbacks.
Injuries have plagued the squad lately, with key players like Rodrigo Bentancur, Mohammed Kudus, and Richarlison facing extended periods on the sidelines. However, these misfortunes can't entirely excuse the recent home defeat against struggling West Ham, which further highlights the team's current struggles.
Despite this turmoil, it appears that Frank still has the board's support for the time being. They acknowledge that enhancing the squad is crucial if Tottenham hopes to challenge for a European spot this season. With some consistent performances, it's not entirely out of reach.
Recent reports suggest that Tottenham could potentially secure Andrew Robertson from Liverpool in a major transfer. The seasoned full-back, whose contract is set to expire this summer, may be a target for Spurs who prefer to act now rather than risk a free transfer later, especially with competing clubs likely to enter the fray.
Journalist David Ornstein shared on X, "Tottenham Hotspur is working on a deal to sign Andy Robertson from Liverpool. They have accelerated their plans to acquire the 31-year-old left-back ahead of his potential free agency this summer. While nothing is finalized yet, discussions among all parties are progressing with the aim of reaching an agreement."
If Spurs manage to bring in Robertson, his extensive experience would undoubtedly enhance their defense. This addition could set up a competitive situation on the left flank with Destiny Udogie also vying for a starting position, while Djed Spence and Pedro Porro would continue to contend for the right-side role.
In addition to the potential signing of Robertson, there are rumors circulating that Tottenham has been presented with an opportunity to strengthen their center-back options by acquiring Chelsea's Axel Disasi. Disasi has faced challenges under former coach Enzo Maresca but has recently been given another chance to train with Chelsea's first team under Liam Rosenior.
Yet, it seems likely that Disasi will eventually leave Chelsea, and according to Ben Jacobs via YouTube, Tottenham has been offered the chance to sign him. Jacobs stated, "Chelsea has reintegrated Axel Disasi into training, and it appears they want to boost his market value before selling. If they talk positively about him and reintegrate him into the squad, they’ll be in a stronger position to negotiate with clubs like Tottenham, who had shown interest in him before he was loaned to Aston Villa. However, I’m not sure anything concrete will come from this offer."
Acquiring Disasi might be a strategic move for Spurs. The defender could cost over £30 million, which, while significant, could prove prudent given uncertainties surrounding the futures of Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero. Additionally, Radu Dragusin is likely to depart this month, and Ben Davies, who is also sidelined with an ankle injury and is out of contract this summer, adds to the urgency for depth at center-back.
With the potential investment of around £30 million for a 27-year-old player with Premier League experience, Spurs might find this to be a worthwhile endeavor, especially considering Disasi's need to regain match fitness after a considerable time away from first-team action.
