"The listing piqued my interest, but it was more than just a pretty face." Tim explains, "The mention of Gerald Genta's name sent shivers down my spine."
But here's where it gets controversial... Genta's name, once a symbol of excellence, has become a marketing buzzword. Tim wondered, was this watch truly designed by the legendary Gerald Genta?
Intrigued, he placed a bid, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Piecing Together the Puzzle
Tim's journey took an exciting turn when the watch arrived. It exceeded his expectations, with a sharp grey dial and a petite yet striking case. But the true revelation was the 'GG' buckle, a hallmark of Gerald Genta's involvement.
Curious to learn more, Tim sought answers. He connected with Bvlgari's Product Creation Executive Director, Fabrizio Buomamassa Stigliani, who confirmed the watch's origins in the 1970s. Stigliani also revealed the watch's unique dial, crafted by Stern Créations, known for their exquisite dial finishes.
The mystery deepened with the Gerald Genta hallmark. Tim reached out to the Genta family, and Alexia Genta, Gerald's daughter, provided the missing piece.
The Sketch that Changed Everything
Alexia's email, with an attached sketch, was a game-changer. It was the original hand-drawn design by Gerald Genta himself, confirming the watch's commission by Gianni Bulgari.
"With the sketch and the watch, the story came to life." Tim says, describing the watch's unique dimensions and its sculptural presence on the wrist.
Unveiling the Background Story
Tim arranged a meeting with Alexia in London to discuss the watch further. Alexia shared insights into her father's creative process and his unique relationship with brands like Bvlgari, Van Cleef, and Fred Paris.
"Dad had a bold vision. He wanted watches to be audacious yet elegant, a true pleasure to wear." Alexia explains, revealing the heart and soul behind Gerald Genta's designs.
As their conversation deepened, Tim realized this little Bvlgari was more than just a watch; it was a portal into the world of Gerald Genta, offering a glimpse into his career and character.
Alexia described her father's instinctive design process, his singular mind, and his disregard for trends and the market. "He was an artist," she says, "and that's what made his work so unique."

Since adding the Bvlgari to his collection, Tim has worn it proudly, traveling with it across the globe. It has become a conversation starter, with people curious about its unique design and origins.
"It's fascinating to see how Bvlgari's design language has evolved," Tim notes, pointing out the typography on the watch's dial, which is similar to that seen on modern Bvlgari models like the Octo and Roma.
The Gerald Genta Heritage Association
Today, Alexia and her mother, Evelyne, run the Gerald Genta Heritage Association, dedicated to sharing Gerald's work and demystifying the man behind the legend.
"We want people to understand Dad's versatility. He designed watches for all occasions, in all shapes and sizes." Alexia says, highlighting her father's creative genius.
Alexia also reflects on the misconceptions surrounding her father, emphasizing his humble beginnings and his role in saving mechanical watches during the quartz crisis.
"He was an artist, and we're proud to continue his legacy." she adds.
As their conversation came to a close, Tim asked Alexia about the impact of this journey. "It's been a wonderful process, learning more about Dad's work." she replied, expressing her desire to uncover more of her father's designs and share them with the world.
